Around the beginning of the year, we included another data source in the “mass” column of Open-FF. That is, we began reporting mass from the FracFocus column, “MassIngredient” when a calculated mass was not possible. “MassIngredient” is a column directly reported by the Operator company. This change added mass values to about 250,000 records in the Open-FF data. We felt this was an important addition.
However, over the subsequent months, we keep finding serious misreporting in MassIngredient.
For example, in the header image of this post, the circled data points are the mass of sand that are clearly much greater than typical disclosures. Those points are from MassIngredient and quite suspect.
Until we find a way to screen MassIngredient in the way we have screened calculated mass, we are removing it from the “mass” field. It is still available in its own field “MassIngredient” in the Open-FF data set.
